5 juli 2014 Powell River Canada

After a 9 hour tight airplane chair we arrived in Vancouver. From there heading some 100 km north by car and with ferries to Powell River. We stayed at daughter in law Danya’s family. A couple years ago Danya’s stepth dad Jack told us of his plans to hike The BC Sun Coast Trail, in order to loose weight. We were warned for bears and cougars. Black bears you never can count on. But the grizzlies are much bigger. To keep them at a distance hikers wear bear bells and carry pepper spray. I wonder if that helps when a 3 m high grizzly in standing straight in front of you. Jack told us that last year a bear was sitting in the tree in their front yard. Probably he didn’t dare coming down because of the bear bells. If you find poop of a bear one may wonder if it is a black bear or a grizzly. Jack explains that grizzly’s poop contains buttons, bear bells and stinks like pepper spray. In Lappland still live 1 or 2 bears. Now I am prepared for them. If I miraculously will get lost, then look for poop with Joep’s grey hair in it.

We visitid a nice international choirs contest in Powell River, had meals together, grandma Canada, Linda, was united with grand child Sienna, our son Miel and Danya visited friends and thus we spent a few days before heading to the Sun Coast Trail in rainy, misty Brittish Columbia.
