As soon as possible, before it got too late, I wanted to depart from Mercedes (and her husband)’s house. Upon leaving Mercedes she gave me the impression that I, or was it for my payment for the inn?, was worth a real embrace. I believe the first Spanish kiss of my trip. Photo. We started in dirty weather again: rain, cold wind. A few degrees above zero C. I did not take gloves with me on this trip, because I went to Spain! It was just bearable, in terms of temperature. After an hour my pants and feet were soaked. Like on other days it stopped raining around noon. The clothes got dry, I got a little warmer, The scenery changed instead of vast flat fields to gently sloping hills and fortunately the opposite’s Santiago signage was not a big problem. A hostal for the night had been arranged, but for the animals I still had to look for another place. But back to the beginning.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

After walking a while this morning I realized that Leons last belt had not been tied. Forgotten. The belt was folded under the pack-saddle. We were approaching a place where the whole road was blocked by excavation works and by a crane. I thought: shall I now stop and fix the belts, because when Leon gets frightened of these machines he’ll flee away and he will loose the entire load on his back. On the other hand I was cold and unpacking the whole pack, putting it  down on the street in the rain in order to reach the belts, didn ‘t appeal to me either. The belly belt was folded under the saddle with the luggage. The same problems I would have, if I wanted to look for warmer clothing in the rain. Should I gamble and take the risk to pass the crane without tied belts? Let’s go for it. We passed the excavators. Leon started running dragging me forward and I thought, Harry, do not let Leon take off. After being dragged forward by Leon several 10s of meters I got Leon quieted down again and we had passed the danger. Because it was so cold, I did not always allow Leon to graze if he wished , because if I would stand still I would get completely numb of the cold. Along the way I twice met a Dutch pilgrim against only two Spaniards and one Australian man. We exchanged a few facts and went on again. The city of Leon is a real city. I want to pass it tomorrow , because in a city we always get lost, it takes a long time and I do not want to wait till the afternoon with crossing the city.  So I booked an accommodations in a suburb of the city of Leon. Of course I was welcome at the guesthouse, but Tosca had to spend the night on the street. For Leon I found a vacant grassy space again between appartment buildings. <\/a><\/p>\n

Did I write it well Betty and Yvonne? From Pamplona I might get a compagnon joining me for one week: Jan L, Dutchman, who now lives near Barcelona with his Dutch wife Hannah. He has got time to himself, so Jan can join whenever he wants. He is thinking about the 20th of Dec. And probably from Dec 17. Constance wants to come and join for 7 to 10 days, and after Christmas some time, son Serv\u00e9 plans to hit the road with me one week . Rudy E. filmmaker also will come some time in the week before Christmas. I write this so the followers know what the planning is. I will still mail everybody personally and also I’ll send an email.
\nMy mother in law, van O, celebrated her 90 plus’ birthday. Unfortunately I had to miss the family reunion that goes along with it. In the lives of my children are positive developments, such as buying a house, starting a business, etc. That is reason for celebration.
\nI also think of Lia, Yvie, Desi, Kelly and Kim, Merie, Dennis, Tamara, with whom I was together at work every day and who used to tell me the latest jokes ??<\/p>\n

For Leon I found a vacant space again in the middle of the district, with fresh grass, 10 min. away from my guesthouse and there Leon now is, tied to a tree again. It is now almost 10 o’clock in the evening, and I want to smuggle Tosca quickly into my room and then tomorrow morning at dark sneaking her out again, but what will happen if Tosca squeaks? My landlady lives in the appartment right above me. Walking is nothing, but the animals. Besides the fact that they are a little skinny, they do well. Yes, like many mothers mainly talk about the children, I do so about my two companions. Is all this still fun ? No, fun is not the right word. But it is a tremendous experience to have to rely only on yourself every day: what refuge will I get for tonight? But I start getting ever more routine and I notice that the animals are really strong. Ha, ha, a dog is like its boss! Today, the co … again and now have to do it again secretly with Tosca smuggling, no time for jokes. Tomorrow I’ll have to pass the city of Leon with horse Leon and then on to one of the last larger Spanish cities that we still have to go through: Burgos, here we come. Then the Pyrenees will kindly wait for us and so the different people who walk with me the next time and want to spend the holidays so even really different, viz. A fool with a pony and a dog. Yes, I enjoy myself anyway, alone, I have to do it all with chuckles. OK. then. And now the trick with the dog. Brrrr. Photos tomorrow. Accidentally the photos of the city of Leon are placed on today’s blog, Friday, but they are only taken Saturday.

\nI arrived in Arcos hostel in the outskirts of Leon, called Trobajo del Camino. Leon is a big city and I wanted to teckle this problem as soon in the morning as possible, before the bysy traffic. If I would arrive in the city in the afternoon and then would get lost, I would never get to a village any more during daytime. And caballo Leon always needs a village. In a city I can not accommodate him. So at 4 pm in the afternoon I entered the bar in Leon, where I would get the key of the adjacent guest house. For your horse you have to do some searching yourself, the barkeeper told me. I had to accept this accommodation address, because I could not cross the whole city of Leon in a few hours, risking to get lost and then probably not find  shelter anymore. O.K., I said, the dog will wait on the sidewalk outside the bar, tied to a fence, I will unpack the horse here in front of the hostal. I’ll leave my bags here on the sidewalk and then I will look for and find a place for Leon.
\nAgain I found a lot with grass between apartment buildings. In the guesthouse Tosca could stay on a balcony \/ terrace the boss promised. However the barkeeper\/ boss could not find the key to the terrace. The bartender didn’t do much of an effort for Tosca and he said: I can not help you with your dog. And how about in the stairway-hall of the apartment building in which was my hostal? No, he said, I can’t do that. Bullshit, this guest house is private property, I thought. If the bartender wanted to, Tosca could easily sleep in the stairway- hall. All kinds of qualifications I thought of him, which do not fit in this blog. Am I the only one here in the appartmentbuilding? Si! Ha, ha, I thought, that offers opportunities for Tosca. And you are living on the floor above me? No, my mother does and she also is the owner of the appartmentbuilding containing the bar and the guesthouse. Oh, shoot! Tosca will sometimes bark at suspicious noises and that should not happen in my bedroom. Because then, above me, the owner of the guest house will hear Tosca. Late at night I sneak out of the guest house to the place I had tied Tosca to a fence, but I could not just take Tosca inside , because then I would have to cross the glass front door of the bar beneath my apartment. The situation was as follows: Inn door, bardoor, next Tosca on the sidewalk. I leave the inn, walk past the bardoor to Tosca, release her from her fence and walk away, pretending I’m going to take her to the horse. I walk around the block and can come to the inn door from the other side, without having to pass the bar. All bad luck: voices in the stairway of the guest house. That forces me to walk another round. Eventually we silently rush up the staircase in the dark into my room and immediately I go to bed. Because tomorrow early in the morning we’ll get the reverse process. When I entered my litter I was rather satisfied, knowing that for tomorrow night I had a place for the animals and for me.
