Brigida (February 1), patron saint of Ireland, was baptized about 455 by a student of St. Patrick. She was the founder and abbess of the Kildare monastery (Ireland) and lived in seclusion from the world in a cell beneath a large oak tree. Brigida gave away the milk from her cow and the butter to the poor. The saint is therefore often depicted with a cow lying at her feet. Brigida is patron of livestock and is often invoked when disease occurs among livestock.
\nIn addition she also is considered the protector of the poor, mothers and children. She was especially revered in Celtic areas, but also in the Lower Rhine region and in the Netherlands. Also in the eastern part of the present Dutch province of Noord-Brabant the worship of this saint was huge, as evidenced by the number of chapels and altars which are dedicated to St. Brigida (Geldrop) .<\/p>\n

Tonight it rained cats and dogs again. It rained all night. During the day the weather was nice. We walk at nearly 1000 m. altitude, not too hot, wind in the back, so also the little rain in the back, but with our rainwear it didn’t bother us. Until now, I protected my four backpacks with a too large horse rain blanket. The problem was that every so often I had to straighten the rain blanket, because it slipped aside the back of the horse. I was afraid that Leon would step on it, and in that case the plastic blanket wouldn’t survive. So today I saddled horse Leon with the saddlebag, constructed out of tent sail by Tents’ Eddie van W. (I may not advertise). Amazing. All 4 backpacks fit right in Eddy’s saddle bag. Nothing falls off, everything stays dry. Ed, try to get your type of bag patented and if you get it, you share the income with me!
\nAt noon we had lunch in a hamlet, Calzada de B\u00e9jar, where the former school was set up as a bar. Tosca and Leon were tied to a metal fence that filled a broken window of an old house across the street. Photo. We took a boccadillo (roll, in Spanish, not in Limburg dialect!) Back in the street the window railings and with them the animals still were in place. That was only good, otherwise the whole house would have collapsed.
\nAfter a pleasant 21 km. or more we arrived in another tiny village, Fuentarroble de Salvatierra. Leon gets a pasture all for himself. Tosca may sleep on a soaked mattress in a leaky teepee. And we are in an albergue on a sweltering room with glowing wood stove with many sacred images on the wall AND WIFI, after I had been, I don’t know how many days, without wifi \" <\/a> Animals strapped across inn. [\/ caption]. Writing my blog it is hard to not get confused with the days and the pictures. Therefore, Paul H., I make some notes, in order not to forget half of the day, but accidentally I published my notes in the wrong sequence. Probably indeed stoned by alcohol and mushrooms like you suggest. In the evening the landlord prepared diner for the three of us: Spicy pumpkin soup, a pan with livers, a pan of mushrooms, sliced \u200b\u200bdried sausages and p\u00e2t\u00e9, bread, wine, lots of sweet cakes afterwards and a bottle of champagne, because one of the five volunteers who have diner with the three of us celebrates his birthday. In the company of these pious companions Rob and I make a cross before eating! Then we sing at the occasion of the birthday cumple a\u00f1os and we had a good time again. What a luxury trip!<\/p>\n
