Snow on the mountains
The organisation of Fréderique, Mama Alice, which organisation I’m walking for, celebrates its 10 y. birthday. Congratulations Fréderique. Ten years of selfless, hard work, undoubtedly often difficult, far from home, in Peru, Mama Alice. I walk only one year, but you’ve been going on for ten years. Well done. I admire you. People, support Mama Alice. On my site, under :”Mama Alice”, is where you can spend the extra money for beer, or another new dress or pair of shoes, or for another brand sweater.
Lots of rain and a very cool breeze, just winter, to Dutch standards. The mercury did not rise above 9 degrees C. But with the sun and the rain and wind mostly in my back I could stand it very well.
First some 14 km. to Hamar. My planning was to stay there. Just before Hamar I rested briefly at a resting place. Dutch car. We chatted a while. Rejoiced with a handful of cherries, I walked a little further to an information board. While I was reading the board another Dutch camper, so once more a chat. Yes, my voice must have something to do. I find it hard to sing loud all day. Oh, Suzanne, was ist das Leben wunderschön, Oh Susanna, was ist das Leben schön. The sign showed a lunch spot with a salmon museum at a waterfall. O.K., first I’ll go there and then we’ll see next.
It was a kind of Norwegian mini Niagara, but beautiful. A huge troll, I did not know they could be so big, let me pass to the entrance of the restaurant. Buses with tourists left the restaurant. The remnants fish soup, fish dishes and cakes were still on display. I ask: How much is the fish menu? Probably glad that he did not have to throw away all the left overs, for the first time in Norway I got a real Norwegian haute cuisine three-course fish menu, with coffee afterwards for only 150 crowns. For such a menu that is a ridiculously low price here. I ate as much as I could and Tosca outside got the remains of the salmon menu. Totally saturated I got back up after an hour. And now I walk on until I have finished those 45 km., rain or sunshine. After the copious meal I obviously got thirsty. But the gods listened to my prayer and endowed me with abundant rainwater. That much wasn’t really necessary. I filled my bottle at a brook with clear but redish water. Must be iron, I thought, good for making my new red blood cells. Also possible is of course that higher up the mountain a cow is being slaughtered, but what one does not know will not hurt. Probably it wouldn’t even have been unhealthy.
I passed a house. A kind man left the house and came up to me. I saw your dog pulling you with a leash at its collar. I used to keep huskies. Here you have a husky leash. That’s a lot more dog friendly. Photo.
