Nice weather. Tosca, who slept with Ton, Eric and me in the same room, started barking early: a big herd of reindeer. Photo. The first half of the day was quite easy: no high altitude differences, sunny, cool wind, no mosquitoes. Lunch in the Meekonjärvi cabin. And then it started: block fields. That’s miles of stones: big, bigger, very big. One step after the other, up, down. Rather tiring for an elderly youngster. But after 2 hours of trotting over and between rocks, the final goal, the Pihtsusjärvi cabin, came into view. When does the “path” for God’s sake finally head for that cabin? I finally got there. Fuck! This is not the cabin. Oh, then I must go that other cabin, down there in the distance. I leave the trail to walk 1 km straight to the cabin. The path seemed to make a detour, behind a hill. It turned out not to be the Pitsusjärvi cabin, but a Sami dwelling. So the detour was made in vain. That’s how we keep busy. We go up along a narrow path along a cliff. The path was secured with a steel cable, but halfway through, after 100 m., it appeared to be broken and absent. Well, I’m not afraid of this kind of canyons, because a certain Yvonne and Fleur have trained me in Cinque Terra, Italy, years ago. Thank you again. Photo. And filmed. I pass a beautiful waterfall, the Finnish Niagara. Of course I also filmed it. While I was doing that, I was shocked by an accident. That’s worse than scaring hell out of you. 50 Meter or so away from the waterfall Tosca jumps enthusiastically into the water. TOSCA !!! Get out of that water, idiot. She may be adolescent, but that does not mean that you can do everything you want. Pfff she just escaped the avalange. Would be sorry for such a beautiful dog. Once again is proven that the most beautiful flowers flourish on the edge of a cliff.
In the Pihtsusjärvi cabin we ate together again: Ton, Eric and I. Three Finnish ladies who want to tent outside come to cook with us in the cabin kitchen. Because inside is a gas cooker. We are talking about the beautiful nature here. The fear that Finland has for Russia. Sweden once gave Finland to Russia. Who knows, Russia, like the Crimea and the Ukraine, wants to recapture its Finnish exterritory.
The ladies were not that bad. They were an exception, because we had just found out that the men who walk here have really characteristic heads. However the women …. probably also have good characters.
What happens to Tosca tonight, I am promptly asked. Tosca is put in the log cabin. There is a smelly rendeer fur, which is undoubtedly delicious. What a lucky dog.
Ton and Eric found that their panty belt is getting less tight. I already had that experience long ago in Spain. My metabolism seems to have adapted. If I eat little, the corpus does not want to move. Then I have to stop every so many minutes, rest on a stone, if present.
In the evening it starts to rain, ever more. While we are trying to sleep, Eric has already “left”, so to speak, the three cooking ladies come in to sleep inside the cabin instead of in their tents. Eric, Ton and I are on the 5 m. wide shelves of the lower floor, the ladies are on the 5 m wide wooden boards floor 3/4 m. above us. Rain, rain, go away, Come again some other day. Listen to the falling rain, listen to it fall. José Féliciano.
